will the Pico 2000 2 channel be sufficient for FM radio tuning?

Post by DJChuck72 »

Hi,
I have very little background in electronics, but some experience with building and troubleshooting various sorts of power amplifiers and breadboard computers, for example. (The latter included continuity and voltage checks with a multimeter as guided by IC pin-out diagrams and data sheets, FWIW.)
I have started to delve into restoring vintage vacuum tube radios - specifically, the Tandberg Solvsuper 9. I've gotten far enough to successfully repair a botched rectifier bridge fix by the previous owner, as well as replacing bad / leaky capacitors, checking voltage levels, etc.
There's a terrific website detailing a complete restoration, including various tuning adjustments for both the AM and FM bands:
https://retronics.no/2024/01/14/restora ... estoration: Tandberg Sølvsuper 9, step by step
I'm only interested in the steps for "aligning FM IF, RF and discriminator" - which involve both a signal injection and then adjusting the different wave forms for each component.
After some poking, I think the PP906 PC USB Oscilloscope, PicoScope 2000 Series, 2 Channel, 10 MHz, 100 MSPS, 8 kpts, 35 ns will do the job. (It's also possible to get by without a signal generator by just tuning to a strong source, FWIW.) I would also need to complement the kit with a couple of sprung hook probes?
'course, I could well be wildly off here - hence any help and advice will be all the more greatly appreciated.

what frequency range do you expect from the function gen ?
because the 2000 can only do 100kHz or 1MHz depending on the model type.

Many thanks for your reply.
What is needed is 10.1 to 11.3 MHz (10.7MHz center frequency). Considerably out of range for these models, sorry to say.
Again, many thanks for your help.
