Pico Technology Test & Measurement Newsletter

February 2023

We're excited to announce that our PicoVNA 5 software is coming soon!

Why use an oscilloscope? Our simple case study shows how to debug a circuit with a PicoScope.

Did you know that our PicoScope 7 software supports 32 serial decoding protocols? Check out our focus on serial decoding.

This month, we share some of the Best of the Web with a demonstration of how to use a PicoScope 2204A as an audio analyzer.

Want to see us in person? Our upcoming live events are listed below.

Coming soon: PicoVNA 5

Built for speed, scalability and cross-platform compatibility, our ground-breaking new PicoVNA 5 software achieves compatibility with older computer hardware, while making efficient use of modern hardware (PC, Mac, AArch64, Raspberry Pi 3 and up) to unlock new processing and feature possibilities.

You’ll soon be able to customize an unlimited array of frequency domain and time domain viewports (display channels) for your PicoVNA 106 or 108, as well as add and group limitless markers with comprehensive user configurable readouts. You’ll be able to cross reference limitless memory traces, and enjoy organizing this data on a thoroughly modern, snappy, multi-port User Interface.

PicoVNA 5 has been designed with system and OEM embed integrators in mind. You can use the SCPI remote-command interface, or the separate high-performance API; Lab View, MATLab, and Python users, for example, would all be able to chose either. Both the software and the API are designed to be capable of rapid expansion to meet ever-evolving user requirements; which we hope you will share with us via an in-application feedback utility.

Why use an oscilloscope? A simple case study

Why use an oscilloscope? In this video, we run a simple test to demonstrate how, and why, you can use an oscilloscope to debug a simple circuit, and how this can give you more evidence than just using a Multimeter and testing continuity.

Serial decoding and wind sensors in PicoScope 7

Did you know that our PicoScope 7 software includes a varied and ever-expanding database of free serial decoders? To date, our software supports 32 serial decoding protocols as standard, each of which offer different capabilities to decode, display, and analyze waveforms.

Our recent addition, Wind Sensor decoder, captures and analyses Wind Sensor communications which utilize the NMEA 0183 protocol. With wind sensor serial decoding, signals can be single-ended or differential (two-wire, or 4 wire). The decoder can interpret both of these implementations.

You can find a guide on how to capture and analyze these wind signals on our website, in the A to Z library.

PicoScope 2204A as an audio analyzer

Dawid. Czaykowski

In this video, Dawid demonstrates a novel application for taking audio measurements from our PicoScope 2204A Oscilloscope. Check out the full video for a simple method of using a PicoScope as an audio analyzer.
